Yakima Valley sees reduction in gang crime

Monday, December 15th, 2014

YAKIMA, Wash. — One recent afternoon in north Yakima, three young men met at a corner and exchanged street-style handshakes — two palms slid together followed by the tap of balled fists — and subtly glanced at Yakima police Officer E. Morfin as he passed in a patrol car.

None of the men was wearing gang colors and there didn’t seem to be any trouble.

Morfin, a member of the department’s gang unit, said gang crime in the area has steadily declined since 2010, with a sharper drop the past two years.

“The man, Howard Anderson, is a familiar face at the high school. He greets students as they shuffle toward cars and buses. It’s not the only face time he gets with students. The private security officer also makes it a point to be there as students arrive in the morning and to chat with people he passes while patrolling the hallways throughout the day. As a result, many students know him by his first name and, more important, he knows the students well enough to know when something is off.

His presence is just one of the many new tactics local schools are using to step up security efforts, partially in response to the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012.” Read more here.

Thank You Team Members!

Friday, September 6th, 2013

The month of August is well known at PPC, filled with back to back security at rodeos and fairs across Washington State. This year we worked with Benton Franklin Fair and Rodeo, Ellensburg Rodeo, Grant County Fair, Moses Lake Rodeo and the Omak Stampede to provide a safe and fun environment for all fair and rodeo goers. Many team members spend the majority of the month away from home, traveling from one rodeo to the next. It’s long days of dust, heat, and crowd control but also long days of creating new memories with our “second family.” If you didn’t know already, September 21st is “Gratitude Day” but we didn’t want to wait that long to express our gratitude to you, our second family. A special thank you to all team members who put forth their time and energy in executing top-notch quality security service this last month, we couldn’t have done it without you!
